🚨 A man armed with a shotgun and carrying a fuel can was shot and killed early Sunday after entering the secure perimeter of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, U.S. authorities say. The incident is under investigation by federal and local law enforcement.

What Happened

According to the U.S. Secret Service, the breach occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time when a vehicle entered the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago estate as another car was exiting.

The man, identified by authorities as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina, was seen near the gate holding what appeared to be a shotgun and a gasoline canister.

Law enforcement confronted him and ordered him to drop both items. He complied briefly by dropping the fuel can, but then raised the shotgun toward officers, leading to Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy opening fire. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Who Was the Gunman?

Martin, from Cameron, North Carolina, had reportedly been reported missing by his family days earlier, according to authorities. Investigators believe he traveled south and acquired the weapon before arriving at the estate.

Federal agencies including the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are now investigating his motives and compiling information about his background. Officials have not released any indication yet about why he targeted the property.

Where Were Trump and the First Lady?

Former President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were not at Mar-a-Lago at the time of the incident. They were reportedly at the White House in Washington, D.C. when the breach occurred, and both were informed after the fact.

Response and Security

No Secret Service agents or deputies were injured during the incident. Authorities praised the quick response that prevented further escalation.

The FBI has urged local residents near the Mar-a-Lago community to review home security camera footage that could help investigators understand the man’s approach and movements prior to the shooting.

Context of Security Threats

Security at high-profile political properties has been heightened in recent years. Trump survived multiple assassination attempts and threats during his campaign, including attacks in 2024.

Federal agencies are continuing to investigate Martin’s intentions, his movements before the incident and whether he had any connections or planning indicators that would identify a motive.

This remains a developing story, and authorities have pledged further updates as more information becomes available.
