Hayden Panettiere, the actress who became a household name through her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed the news through a statement provided to ABC News. No cause of death has been publicly disclosed, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Panettiere rose to international fame in 2006 when she was cast as Claire Bennet in NBC’s hit science-fiction drama Heroes. Her character, a seemingly ordinary high school cheerleader with the extraordinary ability to heal from injuries, quickly became one of the show’s most recognizable figures.

She later took on another defining role as Juliette Barnes in Nashville. The series allowed Panettiere to showcase not only her acting abilities but also her singing talent. Her performance earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

A career that began in childhood

Panettiere entered the entertainment industry at a very young age. Among her early credits was the voice of Dot in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life. She went on to appear in films including Remember the Titans and the Scream franchise.

Her career continued across television, film and music, with Panettiere becoming particularly admired for taking on emotionally demanding roles.

Her final role was in the 2026 psychological thriller Sleepwalker, according to Reuters.

She spoke openly about her struggles

Away from the screen, Panettiere was candid about some of the most difficult periods of her life.

Earlier this year, she published her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she discussed her struggles with postpartum depression and addiction following the birth of her daughter, Kaya.

Her openness about those experiences made her story particularly meaningful to many people who had faced similar challenges.

Panettiere’s daughter survives her and lives with her father, Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

A heartbreaking loss for her family

Panettiere’s death comes just three years after the death of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023.

Her father remembered Hayden as an extraordinary person, describing her as a powerful presence whose life touched many others.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists also paid tribute to Panettiere, recognizing her long career and contributions to the entertainment industry.

For millions of viewers, however, Hayden Panettiere will remain the unforgettable face of Claire Bennet from Heroes and the talented, complicated Juliette Barnes from Nashville.

She was only 36.

Her career began when she was a child. Her biggest roles made her a star. And now, fans around the world are mourning a life and career that ended far too soon.
